1. make sure you have the MySQL service activated on your powweb package. you will also create your database
2. create a user with yes for all permissions.
3. upload phpBB2 to your htdocs folder. you can either upload it into its own folder (thats what i did) or you can just put it directly in the htdocs.
4. go to yoursite.com/phpBB2/install/install.php
5. the form you fill out is very straight forward. database type (select MySQL 4.x), your database name (whatever you created in step 1). database username and password (whoever you created in step 2) table names (only change if you are installing phpBB more then once) . make an admin account for phpBB. enter in admin email address, and your site name (your domain name). If you make a mistake on your site name you will get a meta redirection error when you go to log in.
6. after that form is all filled out and filled out correctly, you click next, or whatever the button is and it will thank you for using phpBB. click the finish install button.
7. FTP to your account and delete the install and contrib folders.
8. from your browser go to your index.php (wherever you put it).. log in and configure your forums.
9. your done

hope thats what you were looking for

You put the skins in the templates folder....then go into admin section and add them.

indicates that it could not open a template file.

you need to have like this in the directory,

/templates/subSilver/
/templates/subVeror/
/templates/whatever/

inside each of those directories you will have the folders admin, images, and a whole bunch of .tpl files.

if you uploaded it to where it is

/templates/subsilver/subsilver/(admin,images, all the .tpl files) it will give you hassles.

no.....i did it right and all...is there a way to delet it so i wont go there instead i will go to the default one? with out really going into the forums since i cant...?

you should always set up a test account to test all new styles.. and never use the user override for the style. not all styles work and sometimes they prevent you from entering you admin panel.

oooo...now u tell me? is there anyway of deleting that and making my admin account go to default instead of it....or have i lost it?

you should try posting your situation on www.phpbb.com

i am sure this isnt the first time this has happened to someone.. someone on those boards should know what to do.

I need some serious help with this...and please forgive me for being a noob...:)

I installed phpBB 2.0.6 into the 'htdocs' folder and in my browser I put in our temp url (since this is a new service, i believe that is the one I need to use) followed by /phpBB2/install/install.php
I get "cannot find server" This is sad because I cant even get passed this portion of the installation..:)

I do know the temp url works, because we already have our Clans webpage active....

Can someone please help me with this...thanks..:)

did you put a phpBB2 folder in your htdocs folder? or did you put the contents of the phpBB2 folder in your htdocs folder?

if you put the entire folder in it would be tempaddy.powweb.com/phpBB2/install/install.php

if you put the contents of the phpBB2 folder in the htdocs it would be tempaddy.powweb.com/install/install.php

you speak of a clan.. that for an online game?

Try it without the "www". You can setup some scripts with temp url and when perm kicks in the script explodes.

was it a phpBB forum?

if so thats real easy..

1. back up database on your old forum
2. restore database to your new forum

as long as your table names are the same it will work fine.. at least it has for me, and i have done that a lot. your database names do not have to be the same.

it will make EVERYTHING exactly how it was on your old forum.. so make sure if you have any extra styles installed on your old forum.. in stall them on your new one BEFORE you restore the database.
