I got a Sony-made CD-RW (RW8-4-32).
I use Nero 6.0 software to burn my CD-RW.
I came to realise that I cannot burn more 650 MB.
Yet in the software market, I notice that they are able to sell a single CD-ROM that can carried a few times more than 650MB.
The fact of the matter is how can this be done.

compression. many disks contain data as bin or iso files which are compressed also many programs are compressed into cab cabinet files
Don't know how old your CDR drive is, but most made in the last 3 or 4 years support up to 700 MB disks. Your "8x4x32" sounds about the same age as my Plextor, so it "should" support the 700's.
I know that Nero supports the 700MB disks, as I've used it before.
When you buy blanks, some places offer both the older 650MB disks and the 700MB ones.

when will they make cd-r cds like the dvd-r cds and be able to hold 4.7 gb? lol :p
Why would they make CD's that size when they already have DVD's that are capable of writing and re-writing that much data?

so that i dont have to buy a dvd burner...lol;)
Give 'em six months and they'll come down... I think if I buy thrrough the company I worked for this summer the +RW's are @ $135 w/shipping included. I think we paid that much for our first 4X CDRW some time ago.
I paid $200 for the first CD drive that I ever had (a 1x), and $1000 for the first CD Burner. The blank CD's cost $15 each at that time as well, so you really tried not to make mistakes.
How times have changed :)

It does support 700MB for that matter.
What's cabinet file anyway? I know in ordinary term it means a cabinet that secure many files plus junks too in one compartment alone.
How could this apply to a CD-RW settings?
Would this lead to over-cram situation?
PS: My Sony-made CD-burner only fits for CD-R and CD-RW disc model. Any thing beyond that, I would love to know.

At work we used cdrs as single use only media... lol.... can't imagine doing that with >$15 disks!
just FYI, you can also do "overburn" with NERO, which basically lets you fit more than 650MB on a 650MB disk. It burns into a portion of the CD that's typically not used for whatever reason, I believe.
I have Nero 5, not 6, but in mine the option is under File, preferences. Then go to the 'expert features' and the overburn option is there.
However, you really don't want to ever overburn. You run the risk of corrupting the disk and possibly damaging your burner. Besides, cds are cheap. I've been known to burn 3 MB to a CDR before.

WOW that's nearly double what i can get on a single floppy, hey satis ...cutting edge technology or what :D
hehe, yea. All my floppies are old, so not trustworthy. Bah, CDRs are so cheap anyway it doesn't really matter... burning a couple megs and tossing it in the trash afterward really doesn't bother me. I just wish the cases were cheap. :)

Yes, it is possible.
For I brought a CD-ROM that contains 8 OS in one shot.
It is amazing how technology has led us thus far...

Lol.... I'll never forget sitting in a computer class a few years ago and having the teacher hold up.... <drum roll> A VIDEO CD!! </drum roll>. Man the teacher couldn't stop talking about what an innovation it was and how it would be the next big thing. Only problem I saw with it was the size: the one disk was about 18" in diameter. I wanna get a cd wallet that'll hold 50 of those!!
