What's the difference -
processors: 933MHz and 1.1GHz in an INTEL Pentium III personal computer?
Is there a need to upgrade from 933MHz to 1.1GHz?
An Open Discussion:
Who needs a personal computer when someone crazy enough to come up a human computer just like in a movie The Terminator?
the terminator wasn't a human computer. It was a computer that was made to look like a human.
If you wanna talk about human computers, look at Dune. The mentats were human computers.
On the processor thing, I wouldn't bother. What's 200mhz? I don't know how much RAM you have, but if it's 256MB or less I'd recommend upgrading that, instead. You'll see more of a difference that way then with a new processor.
if it was a celeron to a PIII it might MIGHT be worth doing, but Satis is right, go for a RAM upgrade first

Even then it might not really be worth the cost.....

I have upgraded my RAM from 128MHz to 256MHz.
That's doubled.
Still that's a bit slow for Virtual PC: 2 or more OS in one PC...
Will 512MHz do OK?
the more the merrier. I have 1024MB in my machine. :) That may actually be a tad excessive, but I saw no reason not to. My other machine started with 256MB. When I upgraded to 512 I did notice a performance increase.

WOW! That's good.
OUCH! That's crush my wallet.
SPEED?! -- PC133/100 only.
it's not really that expensive. Cost me $200 for two 512MB DIMMS of high-performance pc2700 DDR. :/ pc133, eh? My older 1.2ghz machine is running that.
What are you planning on doing with this machine, anyway?
When I first built my main machine I use now, I went waaaaay out and put in a 1.1GHz Athlon and 1024 pc133 ECC SDRAM and man, you couldn't buy that from any big company at the time (this was the day they released the athlon 1.1GHz) and man, was I the envy...
Now I am looking at an upgrade soon, Dual Athlon MP 2000+ with either 2 or 3 GB PC2100. however...(just to bug ya Satis) I may push that off if I get the sparcs set up this month. 12 64 bit processors running in a cluster driven by a dual PIII (wonder if it has enough power?) but that is for intensive DCC movie shorts and such.
On the flip side, that (those) machines are run offline for the most part, I have them isolated from the internet and the rest of my network. I do all of my day to day stuff, communications, surfing, etc on a 475MHz laptop with 158MB PC100 RAM and it is rare that it bogs down bad. so, it all depends on what you are using.
web software, word processors, etc. can run on relatively small machines. it is only when you get into 3d design, or intense gaming, that you need alot of power. I can even run decent sized renders on the laptop and my wife does some Bryce work on the 333 (512MB RAM) computer she has. with the exception of really large renders, neither computer has much trouble. With the exception of the aforementioned 3d rendering and 3d gaming (which does alot of 3d rendering) the monster computer market is ego driven today.

Go ahead, my friends.
Let's put the best of the best in one slot.
And SEE THE RESULTS...
I can tell you this... it would not be good.
?
yea yea Trip, just rub in those Sparcs why don't you. :/ heheh. I agree, though, for regular day-to-day computer stuff that most people do, a 500mhz system with sufficient RAM is plenty. I do alot of gaming, 3d work, graphics and some video stuff, so I need every ounce of power I can muster.
On my 1.2ghz machine (512MB cas2 pc133, RAID-O ATA100 array) I could 'backup' a DVD movie in approximately 18 hours. On my 2ghz machine (1024MB cas2.5 pc2700, no RAID) it takes about 6.5 hours. That, IMO, is a measurable difference. Also, Bryce scenes take considerably less time to render now. Blah, anyway, it all depends what you need it for. When I worked for tech support we'd have people calling up with their brand-spanking-new 2 processor rig with a gig of RAM and a DVD burner etc etc etc, when all they use their computer for is day-trading. :/
