View Full Version : Folder View settings in 98se
Every time I reset my Folder View settings they default back to another view upon boot....I have reinstalled the OS, scoured the win forums for a bug fix...searched the MS knowledge base to no avail...
I guess I'll have to live with the gross 'large Icon' view forever...anyone know of a registry tweak?
This is from Windows ME so your milage may vary...
In Windows Explorer... Tools menu... Folder Options... View tab... make sure there's a check in the box to "Remember each folder's view settings".
You may want to click the "Apply to all folders" button.
Rick_E Thanks for the reply.
Alas that's one of the first things I checked many moons ago.
This is not a settings issue. All usual avenues have been tried over and over...seems its an OS file / registry corruption somewhere.
this is the registry key that stores all the folder options:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder]
this includes sub key, btw. Anyway, you can poke around there and see if you can find anything, but that's about all I can really help with.
I know you've already looked for the answer. The most common answer I found is the following. I understand that makes all of the folders the same.
* Open a folder and set the view the way you want
* Uncheck the "Remember" option then
* Click the "like current folder" button
Here's an example from a forum.

Many people have reported that they change the view setting in explorer to the way they prefer, only to have it revert to a default setting when restarting. Here's how to let it "stick"
Open Explorer and from the Menu select your preferred View:
as Web Page
Large Icons
Small Icons
List
Details
Now Select View from the Menu and click Folder Options
Select the View tab
Press the Like Current Folder button
If you haven't already you might try the Microsoft WindowsME newsgroup.

I assume you mean Win Explorer...
Start - r/click - Explore - View - select (list) - folder options (classic) - view - remember each folders view setting - apply - like current folder - ok
This should act as a master switch for all folders, but does not.
I get every folder opening to a default 'large Icon' view....very frustrating....
Thanks
Just a shot in the dark here, but you might try going into your display settings (right click on desktop select "Properties") and then to the "Effects" tab and make sure that "Use Large Icons" check box is UNchecked.
JJ - very cool, I didn't know that was there.. alas, it was already unchecked
thanks
