MySQL Backup: Use MySQL Front ?

Hello All!

I am using Use MySQL Front to administer MySQL database and am wondering what the best way to back up the database is.

I have had some installation woes (duplicate fields appeared after install Step #3 - Upgrade Database) and am about ready to populate my database with content using the web admin interface.

We are offering services at my domain with very few products (under 20), but I'd still like a safeguard in order to be able to restore if needed.

Do I use the export feature? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

I use the backup manager in the admin area to backup my files. its easiar that way. I am sure that during the creation process you must have created the "Backups" folder in the admin area using FTp. If not try the following:

1) Using your favorite FTp (i use smartftp from smartftp.com), go into /catalog/admin folder and create the folder called "backups"

2) Go to the administrative area (back office), access the "TOOLS" menu, You will see "Backup manager". Assuming you did not make any changes to "backups" in your config.php file (admin), it will automatically prompt you to "Restore" or "Backup"

3). Powweb prefer Gzip for backup purposes but I use regular Zip.

4) To be on the Safe side, I always dowload a copy of the backed up DB into my PC using ftp.

Just make sure that only authorized users can access the backup folder. The osCommerce documentation discourages you from keeping backups on the site.

I use MySQL-Front for backups and it works fine.
