server too busy three times today

ive only had an account for a few days and allready have not been able to access my site a few times .. or the pow web home page for that matter i have a broadband connection and havent had any trouble with other sites .... is this the kind of service powweb offers ??

Try taking a look at the Announcement forum and you'll see that there have been some problems lately. Rest assured that PowWeb is doing everything possible to keep your site (along with everyone elses) up all the time. However, there are occasions where unforseen problems do happen.

i wasen't trying to sound like i was complaining .. i understand if they are having problems right now ... it happens ... it only concerned me because i dont know anything about pows track record ... they might be the best server in the world ( and i hope they are ) so i wasen't complaining ....... just panicking :)

I've been hosting with Powweb for almost a year, and I am very happy. My site has only gone down a handful of times, most of which were late at night. In the past year, I'd say total downtime for my site is about 4-5 hours (that I or my visitors have experienced)....I think that is outstanding!

vixr, you have every right to be concerned, or to complain, remember, you are spending your hard earned cash with Powweb (they are not paying you) :)

Not all downtimes are listed in the announcements, I have documented considerable downtime that was never announced. This should be considered normal though, few hosts announce all downtimes.

Absolutely AmyDyan, 4-5 hours over a period of a year is actually a pretty good track record, especially if downtimes are not during peak hours. I've seen far worse with more expensive hosts.

If your site is unavailable, try pinging yourdomain and doing a traceroute as well. Sometimes it might be the server, other times (like last night) it might be other causes. Sometimes internet routers get extremely congested and shut out good responses.

Also, there are many servers your request needs to go through to get to PowWeb's Servers. If one of them gets kicked off the web, there will be problems. Ever here of DOS (Denial of Service)?
