Yes! I did that also. I would like to hear from someone who has had hands on experience using one of these sites. Thanks for the post though

ok, good luck. i started building and fixing pc's 20+ yrs ago when 5 mhz computers with 10 meg hard drive's and TWO 5.25" floppy drives were hot commodities. i'd be happy to assist as i can, i'm sure there's alot of help availble here too. feel free to contact me at my website. i do try to avoid making particular product or manufacturer recommendations (endorsements?) though. again, good luck and have fun with the new project.

The site is for a friend that lives on the east coast. I am on the west coast. I have experience building computers and computer repair.
I can help him to a point. He is a newby computer buff. I just thought that a good site would give him a good cross section of what to expect and also see the components first hand. My friend is very good with diagrams and techie type stuff.
Just to add a little " Humor " to this post. The person mentioned above was very reluctant to even have a computer three months ago. One day he said: I am on line and have an email address!!!
This was his exact words: I probably won't be online much. Will check email" once a week " LOL
Now he wants to build his own computer. Did he take the bait or what. LOL By the way he is 66 years old. Never too old to learn
definetely never too old. When I was doing tech support, some of the coolest customers were 60+ years old. They didn't necessarily know much, but they admitted such and were more than willing to learn.
Not that it helps you now, but I'm planning on making a tutorial in the near future. Pics and everything. I'll probably be installing Linux on it, though, but assembling the hardware and tweaking the BIOS is the same.
One that I believe to be quite good is from Maximum PC. It is probably a year and a half old, and they are building a specific PC with specific parts, but the concept is very well explained.

Hope this helps
