site down A LOT lately

ive noticed a bunch of messages about the servers being down a lot lately. my site is on www02 (not sure which one that is)...but my site is down again. its been down almost everynight in the middle of the night. it was earlier in the afternoon for me too. i checked with others and it was down for them too. ran a trace route, and it all comes back normal, as i mentioned in another post. just wanted to make sure i wasnt alone with this issue. the announcements boards, it seems everything should be working, but this is a constant issue the past week+

The blue site is up for me right now :/ . ISP cache issue?.. doubt it though. Powweb does calculate n back up webstats nightly in the middle of the night (or so they say).

people i talk to in texas (im in indiana) and colorado and other places are having the same issue. it was up for a bit earlier, but i cant reach it again now.

btw. i ran a checkup thru net mechanic to see if it could get to my site and it sent me these results in e mail

it was up earlier for a bit, because i had a chance to post. it was down earlier in the evening (10pm or so) and now down again. i sent support an e mail about it.

ns2.powweb.com is up. The reporting in OPS is malfunctioning and showing ns2 status as down. This is an OPS error, not a name sever error.

I made a post a few days ago titled "www02 users please read" asking if any other www02 users had been experiencing the same problems I had. No www02 users replied. I see now that it hasn't just been me, but I wish you all would have spoke up the other day. Anyway, anybody else getting this?

Trace complete.

No matter when I do a trace route I always get timed out on hop 12, even when the website is doing fine. I also always get good pings to the www02 server whether or not it is running fine. All I can figure is the server itself is overloaded or having problems.

Im not on my website 24/7 but I did write down a few times that the server was crawling in the last couple of days while I was on.


Sunday - 4:00 pm Pacific until 4:05 pm
Monday - 12:59 am until 1:05 am

Its definelty overloaded
I've been experiencing pretty bad server lag on www02
I think it may have to do with the MSblast still sending malicious
packet information to certain ports and powweb having to block them has created the lag

at least thats what i hope

I"m on www02 and it's slow all the time. I have DSL and sometimes it takes up to a minute or more load. I've done pings and traceroutes (don't know what they mean). All I know is that things have been real slow lately.

Does anyone have any real answers to why?

The obvious answer is because somewhere between you and PowWeb there is a hiccup. That's what a traceroute will show. Look at the times....

It doesn't seem to be an issue with powweb as much as ATT connection to the pipe.

This has happened before, back in March and last Oct/Nov. It will be up & down for a few days then back strong.

As you see powweb's servers do come up fine, the lag is inbetween ATT & Pnap. Oh and it's effecting anyone on that particular pipe, including the entire network of powweb.

I also can't get to a bunch of UK sites today, but that may be a seperate issue.

Sorry Jade,

Hop 12 is not a 'lag' - it's just a router that configured not to reply to ping attempts. There are many legitimate reasons for this - it doesn't mean that anything is wrong/slow.

Since all the times are (close enough) to identical, and are very low, there is no problem with the network connecting you to Powweb. If a site is slow and the traceroute shows this, the problem is with Powweb's server.

yeah. that hop is set to not reply to pings...found that out when i actually e mailed insightbb about it and they referred me to at&t

oh wow. i posted here before i noticed my site is down again. that's 12 hours downtime in 4 days. don't they have some sort of guarantee on uptime?

www01 has also been restarted again, and it should be okay now. Admins are currently monitoring both the 01 and 03 web servers.
