the last few days IE has started playing up. It often will not find pages such as PW forum then if it does will alternate between found and not found
Google, without asking me, updated it's toolbar and i have also applied the MS security patches for Ie
Could any of these be the cause ?
It is a real pain continually getting page not found !!!
Hey Paul,
I would try and disable or uninstall the google bar. I haven't known google bar do any kind of redirection. Gator, The Xupiter, The Hotbar, and Weatherbug are known adware and spyware conspirators.

To disable go to View
highlight Toolbars
uncheck Google
and any other bars that may be lurking there.
Most tool bars are adware or spyware. I avoid them like the Plauge.
Bars and Pubs, Yes!!!! Bar and PC's, NO!!!!!! lol

I have IE and the Google toolbar (and I will *never* uninstall it - it's too valuable). I do not see your problems.
Have you tried running traceroutes when this happens? I'd suspect a flakey net connection somewhere between yourself and your destination.
If IE (with or without the Google toolbar) was the cause, you'd be hearing a lot more people yelling about it...

tracert works on the sites that won't load
this is very sporadic, sometimes i can get powweb forum sometimes not
It seems to affect all sites to some dgree perhaps it is my isp ?
Paul,
Do you have any other browsers installed? If not, why not snag the Mozilla Firebird (http://www.mozilla.org/) browser and use it to test your connection?
The nice thing about Firebird is that it just unzips and runs. Easy to install and Uninstall if you don't want to keep it. But at least it would let you know if it's a browser problem or not.

well i disabled the google toolbar and it seems ok now, i forgot how much faster surfing was without the google bar
It seems the toolbar updated itself without asking me, i now have an ad blocker as well as several other " enhancements" well they must be the cause of the problems, so bye bye google !!

well i take that back, it was not google.
i think it was an isp dns issue, i sent them an e-mail and though they have not replied, fingers crossed, it seems to have improved now

The Google Toolbar adds several functions. First, the obvious - you get instant access to searching via Google. Second, you get the instant news, dictionary, and stock quotes. Third, you also get Google site search, backlinks check, and English translation. Fourth, you get an effective pop-up blocker. And finally, for the obsessives, you get the imfamous Google PageRank meter that tells you the PageRank score of the current page. This is an important feature if you monitor your site's rankings in Google.

Well, what Rick said... Except that I mainly use it just for the instant access to Google - that has to same me several hours a week!
I just set google as the default search - so anything I put in my address bar automatically does a google search if a site does not match.
So I type in "boats for sale" in the address bar . . . no site found . . . so it does a google search on those words. Just a normal windows setting in IE6 - no google bar needed for an auto google search from the address bar.

Trying to add google as a search option in IE all i have is MSN and i can't remember where i add the others, i mean i know it is autosearch but i don't have any other SE options
Here is an interesting thing i found along the way :
If you right click your tak bar and go into toolbars you can add an IE address bar to your task bar, saves a bit of time firing up IE then typing the address :)
Ok found out how to get google as the default search ( don't know why i had only MSN as a choice)
here is an interesting set of tips, not least a script to set up customized searches :
