I've got an XP laptop and 2000 PC on a router and I'm trying to get them to share files, printers, and whatnot. The PC can see the Laptop, but the Laptop cannot see the PC. Stranger yet, even though the PC shows me the laptop's icon in Network Neighborhood, it won't let me access it. When i try to explore the MSHOME network on the Laptop, it tells my I might not have the proper permissions...? I usually don't have trouble with setting up a Windows network, but this one is giving me trouble.
any help is appreciated,

It sounds like the issue is sharing from the Windows 2000 side. Here's a page I found that may be useful. I hope it helps!

there's also some other stuff to check. First off, in 'my computer' properties (or system properties through control panel), make sure you have no 'computer description'. For some reason this kills file and printer sharing.
Also, because both are NT-based machines, they need to have the same user/password set up on them. Basically, if you log on as 'joebob' with a password of 'bubba' on the XP machine, you must create a user account on the 2000 machine with the same information. Ditto for the reverse, if you have different logons.
Also, make sure you only have one network card in each (or at least disable additional ones) since windows gets confused in multi-homed environments. I assume they're both on the same subnetwork, yes? Hrmm.. can't think of much else right now.
