directx 9b

Could somebody please help me? I have an intel celeron 450mhz computer running on windows ME and I installed the newest version of directx (directx 9b to be exact) and now when I try and get into windows it says that there is an error in explorer.exe and that I must reinstall windows. I've tried everything and the only way to fix it seems to be by formatting my computer and I REALLY don't want to do that. Could somebody tell me why it won't work on my system and/or how I could possibly fix this problem? Thank you graciously!

As Dx9 is fairly new if your sound or video card isn't so new you can have compatability problems.

Or you could try to restore the registry. Boot into DOS mode, and at the prompt, type SCANREG /RESTORE Choose a date prior to the driver (Dx9) update.
