View Full Version : Webstats followup
Now that the webstats are gone, I'm going to need someone to help me pick up the shattered pieces of my life. I need help with setting up the webstats on my own.
1) what type of servers does powweb use? You know...there's a billion and a half releases for this (ftp://ftp.mrunix.net/pub/webalizer/) and I really don't want to install this guy more than once.
2) Am I supposed to delete the older one? Am I supposed to DO anything with the webstat directory or files?
3) Does this make sense to anyone? http://help.powweb.com/tutorials/webstat/setup.php
Thanks
The tutorial there makes sense. I believe the only reason you're downloading webalizer is for the config file. You can download the source .zip at the top and just extract sample.conf.
You can keep the webstats directory and when setting up your webalizer.conf, you can still use htdocs/webstats if you put it in for the path.
Good luck.

Excellent - thanks!
Was there ever an official annoucement alerting users to the new policy regarding webstats? Seems like this just happened. A heads up would have been nice... maybe I missed it?

A warning a couple days in advance would have been nice though.

Their policy regarding webstats stinks. At least I will extend to Powweb advanced notice that I won't be bringing any more customers to them!
Yes,, Warnings or a head's up is nice,, but,, put yourself in the admin's shoes here. Your sites aren't the only sites,, and what if they didn't have a lot of notice themselves. Some things just CAN'T be helped.
I'm sure you've been in their shoes to a small degree. You could be configuring something,, then something happens,, your customers are complaining but you are the only one who can fix it. Thank about that.

Webalizer is still on the server, you just have to set up the config file and the cronjob yourself now.
