View Full Version : No Webstats for Oct.
Hi,
Two of my sites show only one hit each on Oct. 1. I know that my sites are active due to the counters incrementing. Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks.
J.L.
Everyone has this problem who analyzes "yesterday's" log, because PowWeb stopped rolling over the logs. Despite this having gone on for five days now, support requests (at least mine) on it have gone unanswered and there is very little said from PowWeb here about it, other than it's "being looked into".
Thanks for the info.
It is very unprofessional for Powweb not to let us know about the system problems which we have to find from other users. Could they not send us a global message with system problems, downtimes and upgrades? My ISP does it all the time. In fact, it is a standard practice everywhere except at Powweb.
I've just installed Advanced Web Statistics 5.7. It took me about 1/2Hr. Hopefully, it will do the job.

Hey, it's powweb virtual hosting, you get what you pay for.
Well, I would disagree with you. Powweb should have some basic ethical obligations inherent in running a business.
Even if their webhosting was free and they comitted in delivering certain services, and those services were not delivered, and failed to inform their users that the services were down or not available and time frame when their services will be restored (for whatever reason), I would question their ethics.
FYI - My stats have also been down since Oct. 1 with one hit from that day. Just came here to see abou the problem and am glad to see it's not just me, but kind of dismayed to see that it's taking Powweb so long to address the issue.

My site and sites of my clients who are also on PowWeb have the same problem of not having October webstats. PowWeb already announced that they are making another webstats program available. If you don't want to wait, you can install another program in your cgi-bin yourself. Check other threads about this.

Did you see the Sticky note? Go to http://support.powweb.com/awstats.html
Installing AWStats in a PowWeb account.
This will hopefully be more reliable than the Webalizer program.

Do not install that version V. 5.7! Powweb promised to upload the tutorial to the latest version, V. 5.9 today.

I have just contacted the senior admin to let him know that it has not been resolved. Hopefully we can get a fix or an answer today. I will follow up with him in a few hours. Sorry for the delay.
Since then I have heard back from him and he is, at this moment, investigating why the script that runs daily to roll the logs over is not working.

JackL, thanks for the update. I hadn't installed it. I figured someone else could be the ginea pig. ;)
mjp, thanks for contacting PowWeb support concerning the webstats. Do you think the time stamp issue affected the webstats or are we just having a lucky streak?
There's nothing wrong with installing awstats 5.7. The changes between it and 5.9 are minor and mostly relate to functionality PowWeb users wouldn't care about. That said, I'm running 5.9 and it's fine too.
I have installed AwStats and it seems to be working fine
except it only shows stats for the first hour of Oct 1 ... the
same day that Webalyzer stats stopped working. Is this
because it gets the data from the logs that are not rolling
over as they should? I used the update now and it just
shows me the same stats as Webalyzer.
I only installed AwStats because I thought it would work when
Webalyzer does not. Is this the case or are we out of luck
completely until Powweb fixes the problem? I thought that installing AwStats would take care of my webstat headaches here at Powweb.
Thanks,
It is because the logs are not rolling over. Until that is fixed, configure it to use access_log (the current log) instead of access_log.1

My webstats reported October this morning. Check yours.
Sho' nuff! The rollover problem appears to have been fixed! Yay!
Just a note, unless i edited somewhere wrong, when i used 5.9 i had to name my conf file awstats.www.digisal.com.conf in order for it to work. the tut says not to use www, but like i said, unless i edited wrong.
thanks...
and is it safe to say we can disable webstats in OPs?
