View Full Version : Weird issue with my logs

I finally got Awstats running and it looks like a decent program, but my log files are making it difficult to run effectively.

I have it set to run every night at 3:45am, looking at the access_log.1 file

Last night my access_log file was rolled over to access_log.1 at midnight. At 12:03 the new access_log was rolled over to access_log.1 and the one that should have been read by Awstats was rolled over to access_log.2

So when my stats ran, it ran on a log file that was updated for 3 minutes!

I suppose I could change it to run on access_log.2 - but as soon as they roll over properly I'll have problems again.

My question is, why would the new access log file only be in use for 3 minutes and then roll over again?

Any input appreciated! Thanks!

Don't know - this didn't happen to me.

This gets even stranger, and now I'm stumped.

I renamed the access_log.2 to .1 since that is the one that ran all day yesterday (Oct 6th).

1) The file is definitely called access_log.1
2) my conf file is definitely pointing to access_log.1
3) The file is dated 10/7 00:03
4) I downloaded it locally and it contains hits from 10/6 and a few from 10/7

I set Awstats to run hourly now to test since I changed the filename from .2 back to .1

It has ran since I made the changes, but even though there are entries in there from 10/6 and 10/7 - The Awstats.pl file when viewed is showing that I only received visitors on 10/5

So if the file only contains entries from 10/6 and 10/7, why would my stats page only show entries from 10/5?

Thanks!

Awstats remembers the timestamp of the most recent entry it processed, so if you try to "fill in" with earlier logs, it will ignore those. Delete the awstats200310.txt file and then redo the processing starting with the oldest log that contains October entries, then advance through a current log.
