Hi there,
I missed yesterday's manual AWSTATS update and would like to know how I can restore them.
I recall Steve detailing the process, but can not find that response in the sea of AWSTATS postings.
I do recall that it was unclear to me at the time I read it - how to capture previous day's stat data from access_logs. I tried it and it didn't work.
Can anyone detail how to manually update a missed day's update?
Thanks!
(PS) I still do not have cron working, so I have to rely on manual updates. Being out of town and missing an update is really a problem with the manual browser updates :(
If the log file is big .. then split in into two and run the manual update ...
if its an old update ... then rename the access_log.1 to access_log and run update ...
also access_log.2 access_log.3 ...etc ..
If you missed a day in the middle, you have to delete the accumulated October stats by deleting awstats102003.txt, then start manually processing the logs starting with the oldest first. If you do it now, you may not miss much because you'll have zipped logs back to about the 3rd. Or just forget it and move on.

The file says, "AWSTATS DATA FILE 5.7 If you remove this file, all statistics for date 2003-10 will be lost/reset.
__ If I delete it off the server, will all of October's previously updated stat info be lost if I'm only wanting to update one day's stats? (ie yesterday's)
__ Or is what I updated previously to date, retained in another file and I will not lose what's already posted in the Awstats program for the month of October?
__ Do I need to put the file I deleted, back on the server when I've finished capturing yesterday's stats?
__ Since the program is pulling stats from access_log.1, will I be renaming access_log.2 to access_log.1 and manually updating from the browser update link to bring in yesterday's stats?
Sorry for so many elementary questions.
Thanks for your patience.
The problem is that awstats will ignore any log entries earlier than the last one it processed. The only way to go back in time is to delete the monthly accumulated data file (awstats102003.txt), thereby throwing out the October data, and starting over. I don't know of another way to merge in a missing day.
