I can't connect to mysql01, I get this error:

1040 - Too many connections

Also my site is down right, because it can't connect to the database.

Thanks

Are you running PHP-Nuke, PHPBB or any other MySQL absorbing sites? How many? You may be using too many connections, like the error message says.

Considering that traffic is light to my sites, I don't see how that is possible, since this database is shared with other sites, it's not on my end.

You could have a bad PHP script that is opening too many connections and isn't closing them.

Ah yes, has worked for months, then out of the blue, it just starts opening more connections than normal. :P These scripts don't do that, or I wouldn't be running them. BTW I get paid to code in PHP.

BTW I can now connect to it again.

It's very well possible.

I get paid to code in PHP, along with several other languages, this site is low impact, and I don't know of any bugs with PhpNuke that leaves connections open, with the latest build, not to mention I've been through the code a few times myself. I wouldn't host something that left connections open. Considering I'm not the only one using this server, it's more than likely someone elses site causing the problem.

One other thing, this site was hosted at one point on my own servers, and I had many other aplications that used the DB connection running at the same time, and I didn't once have any down time due to DB problems.

You probably didn't have 100's of customers all using the DB with multiple users trying to connect to pages heavily using the DB to create them, like phpnuke and others.

Php scripts can't leave connections open once they have finished, even permenant ones.

At least your up and running.
You should optimise your pics on the home page. 135K for a numbnail of a wine glass is too much for dialup customers.

I had the same problem around the same time.

I have only recently changed to Powweb and have been running the DB on another server without any problems for several months.

The error has gone away now, but is it going to be a recurring issue?

Wine glass? Don't know what you were looking at. Nope I didn't have 100's of people trying to connect to it, which is why I'm annoyed. Time to find another hosting service, got DSL again anyways, so it may go back on my server. Got word back from support, and they told me "There are no problems with mysql01. "1040 - Too many connections" is the
error. You will have to limit your connections." I didn't have too many connections open. What a bull**** response.

It may well be time to move on.....

"You will now be able to get on IRC chat with my new client. I'm still tweeking with it, so if there are problems let me know. Sometimes a server is busy, just retry. I will add more servers to the list soon. Just click on the IRC Chat link to the left. Thanks The Admin"

What IRC chat client are you running that is in violation of powweb policy.

What are you looking at? I had an IRC client on it, 3 years ago, when it was being hosted on my servers. If your going to make stupid comments, and quotes off my site, maybe you should provide a link. Maybe you should take the time to look at the chat block, I have chat completely disabled, and two it's not even irc base, that's an old message, from when it was HOSTED ON MY DAMN SERVERS!

But your right, I assumed you would have more than 3 articles in 3 years.

Also back to the original problem....mysql01 is not and was not down. PHP-Nuke 6.5 evidently had too many connections open.

Thanks for the info, Halfa.

Like I said your stupid comments, considering, I'm not the only one to have noticed it on this thread, it didn't just affect me.

I don't understand what you're saying. I think if the error message says too many connections, that's the problem. And that's not a server problem.

Your right it's not a server problem it's a resource problem, you haven't deligated enough resources. So thusly the claim on your main sight is a out-right lie. Timed out connections, doesn't not equal uptime, of 99.7%. If I can't connect to my DB, and my site can't connect to my DB, then someone else is taking the resources, and thusly I am not getting what I'm paying for. It's simple, if my sight can't connect, then how does it have to many connections open?

Eating carrots can help your sight connect with your visual targets. First, it is not a timed out connection. Your connection is being rejected, not timed out. It has nothing to do with sharing resources. It has nothing to do with OTHER people. Your website is giving too many connections. And if you disagree, please re-read the error message.

But if you insist you're correct (which you might be.. I can very easily be wrong), contact support@powweb.com. Maybe there's something else wrong.

I hope they don't pay you, I don't have my own dedicated MySQL server here, there are other customers using it, so yes it does have to do with other people. My website is not giving to many connections. You obviously have no concept on how virtual servers work.

We like to think we are a civilized group here in the forum. Considering your comments here, if you don’t want to post anymore here at Powweb forum, that can be arraigned.

Powweb has been in the virtual server business for over 4 years and do know exactly how virtual servers work.

Now if you have any further questions, please send them to support@powweb.com

Then stop bloddy blaming me for the problem, I looked at my webstats, and my hits to the side are actually lower than some other months, explain to me, how I could possibly have more connections open? Actually let's break it down further, how could I have to many connections open at an average of 1.33 hits per minute? Since PHP doens't leave connections open.
