Someone o another message board was trying to find a good webserver. Of course I recommended POWWEB.:D But he seemed worried about the Denial Of Service Attacks, and asked me how many times Powweb has been attacked.

So, does anyone how many times Powweb has been attacked?

Any guesses or exact figures are appreciated. :)

Making Your Message With Every Word Capitalized Is Really Annoying...

Also, I doubt if Powweb would release that information for security reasons. Also, as previously answered today - if his site gets hit with a DOS attack, Powweb will probably drop his site (better to disrupt one site then over 1000).

This has been discussed in the forum before. There have been cases where a PowWeb-hosted site was DOS-attached. PowWeb takes reasonable steps to guard against problems, but if it becomes persistent and difficult, they will ask the customer to please find another host.

It's too bad, especially as the site being attacked (usually) did nothing wrong, but PowWeb has a business to run and they have to make hard decisions at times.

When looking into a host you shouldnt be concerned if they are prone to DoS attacks or not. Because ANY server can get a DoS attack, a few years back google was infected and they run their site on multiple servers, every server was infected. But all of a sudden there have been a lot of DoS attacks, one specific instance is the hosting company, Hosting Matters which is a host used by many webloggers. Specifically targeted at the many Anti-War weblogs on that server. The point is a DoS will happen to anyone any time, the best you can do is to ban the IP doing it.

Wait, I thought I said a hosting company that had thousands of their clients down because of a DoS attack. If you switched to that hosting company yesterday after what I said about them getting extreme DoS attacks, well... you know.

You probably wouldn't know. The only kind of "attack" that would be visible is a flood of requests for web pages. Typical DOS attacks don't do that.
