I have installed my awstats following the directions multiple times now. I have gotten as far as I can right now. I am now getting an error that says I do not have permission to view this page when trying to access: http://vividimagesmd.com/cgi-bin/awstats.pl.
I have set all the chmods to 755 however I am still recieving this error. I am looking for any tips that may help.
Thank you,
Mike
take off the period on the end and all works well with viewing the page.
i.e.: http://vividimagesmd.com/cgi-bin/awstats.pl
When you try to update however you get a new error:
Error: Couldn't open file "./awstats102003.vividimagesmd.com.tmp.51844" for write: Permission denied
Setup ('awstats.vividimagesmd.com.conf' file, web server or permissions) may be wrong.
See AWStats documentation in 'docs' directory for informations on how to setup awstats.
looks like a path may be incorrect in your setup ;)

Hi there,
I got this error all of the sudden too - and am wondering what happened. My awstats were working just fine on the Pluto server since they were set up the beginning of October. I did nothing to change them and as of yesterday, I got the error below. My stats are manually updated with the browser - since I have yet to get CRON to automatically update stats on any of my servers. Pluto is pretty flakey though - of all the servers I have.
Anyone else have working AWSTATS that suddenly received this error and/or problems with Pluto server glitches?
I've double checked everything and it looks good. Is it possible the .tmp file got corrupted? The permissions on everything has always been 755. I couldn't find the .tmp file anywhere, however.
Thanks in advance for any input.

My AW Stats are working OK. I am not sure which server my site is on though. Good Luck.
Solange,
Since they moved Pluto yesterday, to the new system, you may need to check your Chmod settings on the awstats.pl (755)
It's also possible that the temp file was corrupted in the move.

Everything is 755 except the actual awstats102003.www.domain.org.txt file (which is created by the program and is 666). AND I noticed the date on that file still reads 10-29-03 -- so it is likely corrupted. The move didn't happen until the 30th though.
*sigh*
Thanks for the heads up on the server move -- I missed that one in the server outages area. I see they also moved cepheid, charon, andromeda and mercury servers. That might account for the same error that mbaker410 is having.
I just checked another Pluto account - and it stopped on the 30th and is giving permission errors too. Since several other server stats appear fine, I can only assume it is the usual Pluto-instability-plagued issues. Nothing else changed and CHMOD is all 755.
Hopefully it will fix itself when it creates a November txt file.
*fingers crossed*
