Hi,

I have a Powweb site using Phpnuke. I moved from another web hosting company and changed my site to use phpnuke 6.8.

Anyway, it is going well and many people are subscribing. I even got my first credit recently :-)

Feedback welcome. It does suffer the MySQL select query limit problem even with the three user account hack.

If powweb offered a pay-for-extra-sql-queries I would consider taking them up on it.

Cheers

The site looks very nice, but I noticed that most of the pages that I just clicked around through seemed to take at least 5 seconds to generate according to the info at the bottom. Some even took longer than 8 seconds. Is this normal for php-nuke or is the srever just very slow today?

Thanks. Just a bit slow I think. On average, when I have noticed, it loads in about 1.3 seconds.

I have noticed the slow down tonight also. Well tonight my time in Melbourne Australia. :-)

Thanks for taking a look.

Nice clean looking site with an overload of good information :)

Load times were slow compared to your 1.5 second times, but from a dialup connection perspective, they were still "good" load times.

4.653 Seconds Main Page (first load)

3.561 Second Whats New

4.289 Seconds Links

14.70 Seconds Articles

6.462 Seconds Home (from "home" link)

The only thing I didn't care for was the splash page, but that's just my preference. To me, I want a site to load it's main page first. I'm going to that site for it's information, not to see it's logo. Again, just my personal opinion on that :)

I like the overall design as well. The only thing that I would change if it was my site would be the top techrescue-collage-fade.jpg image. Looking at in 800x600 the image is bigger than the surrounding cell and then in 1024x768, it doesn't quite fill the cell. You could possibly size it for 800x600 and then center it for larger displays.

One thing I was fond of was the simple navigation menu in the top left. Nice to use a simple scrolling selected list as it enables lots of links without lots of clutter.

btw.. regarding jj's opinion about the splash page - one could easily redirect all /index.html traffic to /phpnuke/index.php with .htaccess or JavaScript. Then you wouldn't need to change any of your links.

Just my 2 cents.. :)

Thanks for all the comments and ideas. I have also noticed the slow down in the pages.

Maybe with more people on it is a little busier, but that is a function of the server and the other sites also.

I am going to look into the code and remove some non-essential stuff to see if it will speed up. Lots of SQL queries.... :-(

Does anyone have any idea how you could measure the number of queries it does? Tricky as it needs to sit in between the MySQL server and site...

Very impressive...I would lose the intro page or have it jump in 5 seconds to the real site. Pages were snappy loading for me - no issue there on DSL at home.

P.S. Which PHPNuke theme did you load?

Thanks. I am using the fiapple silver theme. I have modified it very slightly. Will adjust the timeout on flash page. Good ideas.

I don't like the intro-page to garish.. doesn't suit your site. After 2 seconds I was looking for something to click. Many nukers here have had attacks of late, be sure to keep your cms up to date. Otherwise neat.

Resizes well
Very informative
