View Full Version : aw shucks, awstats not working

My error log says:
Premature end of script headers: /www/l/lisakahane/cgi-bin/awstats.pl

I have little idea what this means. As far as I can tell, I followed the tutorial exactly. My permissions are set to 755. I used bbedit to personalize the conf file, which is titled with my domain name.

I have now flooded my ht/docs folder with a gazillion small files, to no avail.

Can someone offer a suggestion?

Thanks:(

What FTP program are you using? If WSFTP, it doesn't always show permissions properly. You may want to use your browser to look at permissions

ftp://username@ftp01.powweb.com

(replace ftp01 with your server)

It should prompt you for a password. Once in you can right click and choose properties on files/folders to see permissions.

When I got that error it was a permissions problem on the cgi folder itself.

We are working on a solution to this problem right now. As soon as we have a solution, we will post it in the forum.

I think the fix posted by ggriffith is better than mine. :)

Thanks for the update, ggriffith!

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

I use Fetch and a Mac. My permissions are OK.

I've read in the user forums that I need to enter www with my user name, but where?

Thanks again. Waiting on whatever solutions come along.

EDIT: Here's a direct link to the download file: ftp://ftp.barebones.com/pub/freeware/BBEdit_Lite_612.smi.hqx

I'm using bbedit 5.

One more knowledgeable than I says my problem is the lack of folders. Fetch kept opening the folders, so I put the files - hundreds of them! - up without them.

Thanks, LK

Cool! I'm glad a solution is in the works. I've been ftping my logs to a different server and processing them there. It will nice having the stats automatically update again.

Thanks to the romDog webmaster and this forum, awstats now work for me. The problems seem to have been my misuse of Fetch and its inaccurate display of permissions.

A cool program to get for free!
