The site has alot of gray which is dreary like a rainy day. But maybe I am just tired of the weather we are having. ;) The home page has less gray, but more ads. I didn't see the ads on the right until I scrolled to them.
The cad files are neat. There are alot of categories and items for each. There are nice contents to the site. The site loads quickly and looks well organized.
But you used frames which I don't like. And there is horizontal scrolling at 800x600 screen resolution. The free site counter from Bravenet is not necessary. Use webstats to view visits. You can install your own guestbook for free, too.
The website has so many rectangles! And there are different font styles, sizes and colors. The blue links on red background for the Main, Assorted Page 1 and Assorted Page 2 are difficult to read and would look better in Arial font and the same level. (Main is lower than the other links.)
I really enjoyed the contents. You site is not THE BEST, but you are on the right track. Your site is still VERY COOL!
I was kidding when I used the "best" site. I was just gloating because I just had some new cgi scripting done on the site and made over 700,000 page views this month.
A lot of people would think im pretentious and automatically say it sucks.
Thanks for unbiased critique.
I a have a few questions:
Im not sure I understand what you are refering to with: The blue links on red background for the Main, Assorted Page 1 and Assorted Page 2 . I wonder if CSS are not working properly and it looks one way in my computer and another way on others people computers. I have seen my site in several computers and its pretty consistant.
you are right about the bravenet stuff, that will soon be replaced.
(remanents of the dot com boon).
The resolution issue worries me a bit. I have seen my site on several computer resolutions and monitor sizes and on most cases the interface is shown completely WITHOUT scrolling
(which I hate) .
Although...one thing: I LIKE rectangles! :)
Thanks again.

It's okay to be proud of your work! I hear people say their car is the best, their school is the best. It doesn't bother me. ;)
Not sure why I see horizontal scrolling, but you don't. And I visited your site in IE 6. Mozilla probably will not read your CSS the same. Hmm. I tried Mozilla Firebird and the site looks pretty much the same. I could not find my way to those red link boxes! And the "back" text links are nondescriptive.
I don't mind the rectangles, though it makes me think of the newbies using Front Page and not knowing how to edit the code to turn off the border. Oh, no. Now the Front Page people will get upset. But if you have seen enough of them, you will know what I mean. Gray is okay, but not too much of it. I like the deep blue color.
I love the CAD! There should be more sites with it. Most people use Flash, but cad viewers let you zoom!
I am being picky about the overall look, because you only have a few seconds to keep or lose a visitor. Just trying to help.
Your site is definitely one to revisit. Nice job! :)
Not the "Best" but darn good :)
You say you've checked your site on different computers and not seen any horizontal scroll. Well I'd guess that each one of those computers were running 1024 resolutions. Because there is no way you will not have scroll on an 800x600 resolution when you have your table width set to 900.
</script>
<table width="900" height="0" bord.....
Other than what Ms Yvette has already commented on, on your "How to dowload" page, your black text on that dark grey background is really hard to read, as is the blue hyperlinks on that page.

Tee hee! jj is absolutely right about the width and horizontal scrolling. And yes, the color issue again for those of us with vision difficulties. Even if you set your table width="100%", you may see scrolling if the contents are more than 755 pixels (800x600 screen resolution) taking into account the space for the vertical scrollbar. The graphics are fixed sizes and will push the tables beyond the desired width.
My site AND ALL websites look awful on 800 x600 resolution.
Why would anyone use that resolution?
Does it have to do with the size of the monitor?
What are the rules for designing for resolutions?
Well, according to statistics, over 40% of Internet users are still running 800x600 resolution.
A large majority of new computers come setup at 800x600.
So, design how you want, it's your website.
And, for the record, not ALL websites look awful at 800x600! But there are a whole lot that look terrible and amateurish when viewed at 1024x768.
To a degree monitor size and resolution are connected.........but some people have large monitors (19 in) and choose to run them at 800x600 or lower resolution for their own reasons...others have 15 in monitors and choose to run them at 1024 or higher. It all depends on the person and the monitor they happen to have and what it will support.......and for many what it comes default set at....many are default 800x600 and many people don't change it.
On my 1024x768 setting your site doesn't create horizontal scroll......but...although the layout is good......information good...I find it hard to read....the dark text in that orange is not easy to read plus you have one 'header' cell that is totally different shade of orange than all the others...to me personally it clashes ........but then so does the shade of green you've chosen to use .
On the whole.......good site......but just not my cup of tea when it comes to color scheme and font choices for some stuff.

I use 800x600 for all my computers ranging from 14 inch screen on the laptop to a 19 inch screen on my main desktop. It is easier for me to read fonts, see icons and other graphics. Higher resolutions are okay for gamers and graphics designers and those who prefer it.
But many people still use 800x600 for a variety of reasons. I like to design sites that look good for any size, though I start at 800x600. In other words, if it is smaller, there may be some horizontal scrolling, but not for anyone else.
It is not a requirement, but a suggestion to create sites that look good for that resolution.
I didnt notice that different orange cell color.Thanks.
For some reason some people see dark text against a dark backround in the menu. That text should be white.
Im not sure why some users see it that way.
I just added some CSS tags.
Can you let me know if you can see the menu's text as white?
The green..... yeah you are right. but its christmas! :)
Sorry bout being slow on this......I did just go and check and most of the text is now white......There are 2 spots where it is not the "
FREE AUTO CAD BLOCKSa' in the upper left orange cell and in the upper right orange cell Amazon is in white but " (Pop-Up) " is still dark.........
You're right it is Christmas LOL .......
