View Full Version : 533 error
I need help downloading my site. When I try and download into the htdocs I get a 533 error, permission denied. I have read in the forum to change something to 755 but I don't know where or how to do that.
Help!
Kat :)

Is this a brand new package?

What are the permissions set for htdocs? If you cannot correct it yourself, you may have to contact PowWeb to fix it for you. The index page in htdocs should be set to the correct permissions.

Hmm...If you right-click on htdocs (while logged in using your FTP program), you should see either Unix, Permissions, CHMOD - or something to that effect. Set that to 755.

Do you use an ftp program such as CuteFTP, AceFTP or another? You can usually see your permissions by right-clicking on the file in the right pane (server files), then select chmod.
Be sure the permissions are set to 644 or 755, depending on what you are doing. Usually, items in your cgi-bin and the cgi-bin itself is set to 755, while other files are set to 644. Htdocs should be set to 755.
I use WS_FTP LE. When I right click on anything in the right panel, I get these options:Sort/Change Folder/Delete Folder/Transfer File/Append File/Refresh List/Folder List/FTP Commands (drop box) lists: CWD/PWD/HELP/SYST/SITE/QUOTE/LIST/NLST/RETR/STOR
and that's it! :(

WS_FTP is notorious for not setting permissions correctly.
Try using Internet Explorer:
ftp://ftpusername@ftpserver.powweb.com
Right-click on htdocs and choose Properties. You can set permissions there.
Tom :)

Hi katzst
If you would like for me to give it a try .... private message me your ftp login info.
If I can't get the permission to change then admin will have to.

Or take alphadesk up on his offer. He's trustworthy. :)
Hi Tom
I did what you suggested and now my password doesn't work :( It works when I connect to powweb but not when I use the address you gave me :(
I have tried sending emails and the phone but no luck :(
Help Again!

I asked admin to reset the permissions on your htdocs folder.
I have a feeling you are using the wrong password. Login to OPS (https://ops.powweb.com) ... click packages>FTP tab and reset your "FTP" password.
It will take 30 minutes or so to update the new password.
Also remember .... everything is case sensitive.
Katz is not the same as katz
Thanks so much alphadesk, I will try that :)
