View Full Version : Photoshop 7 auto spell checker
Many times when I use the text tool in PS 7, the auto spell checker pops up. It drives me nuts because often I'm labeling photos with abbreviations, etc. and don't need a spell checker. But then I have to stop to take the time to dismiss the spell checker dialogue box.
I can't figure out how to turn the darn thing off. Does anyone know how? Previous versions didn't do this

Spell checker is only in v7.
I'm not sure, but I don't think you can disable it.
Hmmm I have PS 7 and the spell checker only works when I want it to. It doesn't popup automatically. I've not found a way to turn auto-check on/off though.

Really?? That's interesting. I wish mine did that instead of popping up constantly when I'm typing text, trying to correct something I don't want corrected.
According to the PS User Guide, it says you should select the type layer or specific text and then chose Edit > Check Spelling.
So that sounds like the way it does, in fact, work for you. Shoot, I wish mine worked that way, too.

Oh. That explains why I hadn't been bugged by it in previous versions. :D

Wow! I didn't either! Must have been off by default for me. I never thought about spell checking while creating images.
Jess,
Have you by chance installed "AutoSpell Typing Helper" on your computer?
If so, it may be what is putting the speel chucker in auto mode.

Ahhh!! That's it, jj! I don't have that, but I do have Spell Catcher by Rainmaker. Its "Auto-Show Spelling" feature is turned off in the other apps I use frequently so I've not seen that dialogue box pop up before. But after I read your message, I launched Photoshop 7 and sure 'nuff, that feature was checked on.
So the culprit really wasn't PS's spell catcher after all! (even though PS does have one). Thanks a heap, jj! Hope Santa is good to ya. :)
