Yeah it happens mostly with dynamically created images (Try to save the image in my signature).

Sometimes when you save a bmp file form the dot net, the IE saves the next file as bmp, don't know why.

What you can do is .. drag and drop the image in the address bar (IE) .. and the you can save the image as jpg ..or simply drag the image form IE to your desktop.

OR

option C by Croc.

RE:

First, the images coming up .art or .bmp are not .jpg files. .art is an AOL propriety image format who's main function other than requiring an AOL image compatible browser enable quality images in a much compressed format(I use jpeg2000 to achieve the same). A .jpg image might require 16k an equal quality .art might require 5k. .art requires less storage and less bandwidth for transport. .bmp might be one of the grand daddy image formats. It is the native raster image format used by Windows. It is much like .jpg in quality but mostly loss less and usually not compressed and mostly is huge. Both formats can be converted to .jpg but because .art contains less useful information than required for .jpg images the quality from .art to .jpg will suffer, big time.
