Ok so what is going here, well the basics are layers but i picked up a tut that adds some more effect
here goes :
Load up your 2 images, size what will be a background image to the same size as the image of the person, i used some rock materials because well that't what i had handy !!
In the color chanels of the girl choose just the green channel and make a copy of that channel ( right click)
using that channel do a filter find edges, now invert this.
do another filter- other- maximum, i set mine to 4
now filter- median again i set this to 4
and finaly filter gauassian blur er.. why not set it to 4 ?
Ok now control click on the green copy channel this creates a slection and then click the rgb channel, then deselect the copy green channel, make sure the rgb is selected
place your mouse inside the selction you have created and this gives a scissors tool, now drag the selection over to the background image.
adjust the layer mode to suit, i the first image i used normal, i the second one i used overlay
I like the effect it has more to it than a simple layer and opacity effect, if you use the right background you can get some more interesting effects than i just rustled up
