Can I place a WMV clip on my home page so it automatically opens up and plays (5MB) when the home page is hit? I am using front page 2002 with extensions. Thanks. Allen p.s. I do have several WMV clips throughout the site now, just wanted to have this particular WMV automatically pop up when the home page is hit.

Yes you could just as you did on the other pages, and you can make it start right away. But 5Mb would be bad for your website traffic. Better option is to give the visitor the choice. IMO.

c_h, I agree with you except if the video is streamed rather than downloaded it could be a home page attraction rather than the usual pain in the ars (only buffer time would be required before play began). I suggest the onload event to initiate the streaming. c_h take it from there.

I took a look at your site and found your home page pics somewhat slow to load and somewhat under exposed. I used Paint Shop Pro 8/PSP to one click edit and 11% compress. If you care to copy any of them feel free. :D

Well the secret to do that is Paint Shop Pro 8. It has a one touch photo edit that balances brightness/contrast/hue/saturation/clarity/focus/sharpness and someother technical stuff for very near professional quality digital photos. Next, I saved the photos with 11% compression which greatly reduces the storage and transport size. I suggest you get a trial version and trial it. If you decide to buy be sure and get the boxed version currently on sale for $87 but has $75 worth of other stuff and the boxed usually has a great how to book.

There is no right size for web images. Making the best quality within design specs and efficient use of transport/bandwidth is an art form. If you like it that's a start.

Here's something you might try. Make your home page photos somewhat larger and distribute them among the text. Much like you might see in a text book. If you have descriptive text about the pics that would be the best place to integrate them. This is done like: text... <img ... hspace=n vspace=n ...> text... hspace adds space to both sides of the image and vspace adds space above and below an image. You have then moved the text around the image(or one side...etc.). :D
