RE: P.C. World

might pass up Photoshop for a simpler program. We ended up picking Paint Shop Pro 8 as our Best Buy because it easily juggled multiple layers and offered the most flexible tool set, free from the restrictions of wizards. Plus, many of its tools are easier to master than are their Photoshop equivalents.

Paintshop pro is a great tool but unfortunately they are not working on adding new tutorials with all the details. You search for photoshop tutorials and you can find thousand of them online but for paintshop pro its hard to find tutorial with new versions.

Boxed PSP 8 comes with a wonderful 438 page how to book (as did PSP 7). So I guess you do not have PSP 8 in the box. The superior review for PSP 8 by P.C. World was written base on, among other things, ease of use. PSP 8 also has the option to look like PSP 7 if you so like that format and view. I did a Google search on paint shop pro psp 8 tutorials and got 15,200 hits. Now I don't know how much tutoring you need but I do know that if you have the how to book your the expert and if there is a need for PSP 8 tutorials your in charge. :D

PSP 8 was also C/net's Editors Choice for July 2003

I've been using PSP for years. I haven't upgraded to 8 yet, but now that I've got a job again, it's high on my shopping list :)

Photoshop is still superior in many respects, but it is much harder to master and the price is just ridiculous.

I bartered labor for a copy PhotoShop 5. At the time I was a PSP6 user and felt my work might be improved using PhotoShop. However, for web parameter I did not find my products any what superior using PhotoShop and every upgrade is not cheap. I still have a unused PhotoShop 5. I use many PhotoShop plugins but not the main body.

Yes, having employment make all things look better.

PSP had vector tools loooong before PS.

And one of the neat things about PSP is that it can use many PS plugins :)

I tried photoshop and psp. psp was easier for me, and did what I needed so I stuck with it. I have used v7 and v8. v8 solved most of my complaints about v7, as well as integrating jasc image robot. (big plus). For some reason v8 can't handle text hardly at all and will crash. I should try to reinstall and see if it makes a diff, but I haven't gotten around to it.

I usually don't graphic text but I recall your observation is correct. Since, version 8.01 has been available as a download, and version 8.1 was sent to me which appears to have corrected the problem. I've never been real happy with psp text, I mostly use HTML text, or blade pro and super blade pro cosmetics though vector text is a dream.

I have both psp and photoshop .. however I only use photochop to convert my psp images/creations into CMYK before actually sending the design to the printing press.

If psp decides to offer cmyk, i would build all my design work for printing and web from psp.

I tried a trial of ver 8 a few months back and I was not really impressed. Will try and look at the v8.01 now :)

How odd. I used Paint Shop Pro, then used Photoshop at college and have stayed with it since. But for my job, I have to create files as PSD for others to open AND edit. I haven't used Paint Shop Pro since 2000, but it was easier to use and did a nice job.

No one mentions Corel Draw which had features not found on these programs. As each program releases newer versions, they add more features. Now we only have to worry about what format the "other guy" wants. I only got Corel Draw, because some printers used that and needed files in that format.

So, sometimes the choice is not ours. But the comments posted are interesting. I haven't tried v. 8 for PSP or Photoshop. Still using Photoshop 7. But there are plenty of resources for all.

PSP will also output Photoshop file formats. Not sure if it goes the other way.
