video on website

Im trying to post some video clips on my website, up to 5 min each. What is the best way to post them? How do you stream? What file type should they be for minimal storage space? What do i do?

The only way I know how to do this on Powweb is with video in Real Media format. I have asked others who have hinted that there are ways to do other formats how it was done, but none have posted the method. (how about it?)

So, to stream Real Media format video, you need to convert what you have to that format. I use a program called Cleaner5, but there might be freebies out there on the net. I would check www.downloads.com.

Having converted your video to a .rm file type, now you should load it to your website. You may want to put it in different place. This is just an example of how it might be done. I will call the converted file "mymovie.rm".

I put it in my images directory. The hierarchy I use looks like this:

www.mysite.com
htdocs
mysite
images


the url would then look like:

http://www.mysite.com/mysite/images/mymovie.ram

Using Notepad or another pure text editor, (NOT MS Word or Wordpad) write this line on a blank page:

http://www.mysite.com/mysite/images/rm/mymovie.rm

then save this text file as "mymovie.ram" and upload it to the images directory. To change the file extension from .txt to .ram, use your FTP client.

Finally, create a link on your website to the video clip. The full url called in the link would be:

http://www.mysite.com/mysite/images/mymovie.ram

Now anyone clicking on your link should get the Real Media player popping up on their desktop to stream and play the video. Of course, they have to have Real Media player, and the speed of their connection will determine how successful and how smoothly the streaming goes.

you want (which will be 56k in most cases)

then the picture quality (pick one)

then you pick the .rm filename and

covert it to .rm
