dwmx 2004 ftp won't connect, works for me

Thought I'd make another search catcher for this, because this solution worked for me. When my dreamweaver mx 2004 wouldn't connect via FTP while ws_FTP still worked fine for the same account, I changed my ftp server from

www.fingertrips.com
to
www.fingertrips.com:21

I am behind a firewall, and I'm a better designer/developer than a network admin! :D

Suggestion - check the "Use passive FTP" box. It helps with firewalls and I find useful with PowWeb.

i dont even think the server name should be your .com but powweb's ftp.com..... mine is ex: ftp01.xxxx.com. maybe if u cant connect thats y

I am using the powweb name as my hostname, but it's telling me my name and/or password is wrong. I don't understand what the :21 means after the website name.

Can anyone help me connect?

The server name to use CAN be the same as your domain name, if you have a package opened before late 2002. After that, new packages were created with separate FTP servers. You should use the server name listed under the FTP tab in OPS, though if it's the same as your http server name, you can use your domain name if you wish.

Jessica, make sure you are using an FTP username as listed under the FTP tab in Member Operations. 21 is the standard FTP port number - don't put that in the host name. Yours will probably be of the form ftp0x.powwweb.com
