Hi does powweb offer free forums for members to put on their sites?
Or does anybody know where you can find free forums to use for their site?

PowWeb does NOT offer such software, however, you can install any forum software you like here on PowWeb.
I am building a site to help on this, BBDicuss (http://www.bbdicuss.com). You can find some popular ones on the links section (http://www.bbdiscuss.com/component/option,com_weblinks/Itemid,4/catid,2/) on the site.

Invision or phpBB will do fine it seems. Also, if you want the forum to be easy to skin, then I recommend OpenBB.

You need to download one of those forums packages, the one you want to install, then you need to follow the instructions provided to acomplish the instalation.

Is there a really easy way to get a forum up and running?
I am not looking and super complex features just something where I would have control.
Invision Board is a very nice Forum. It's pretty easy to set up as well :D

There are several out there.
phpBB.com
vBulletin
BBBoards
etc...
you can do a search, and several more will pop up.
You need to download the software. Most have easy zip files. You also will need to have MySql set up on your account.

Do you expect alot of members for your forum? If it is a small group without an abundance of posts, you can try a forum that doesn't require MySQL database. That will save you the hassles of connecting, backing up or maintaining a database.
I installed CuteCast forum which has a text file database that works great for the Street Lethal F Body Association car club. See http://slfba.org and click Forum. It is easy to upgrade or customize and their forum members create skins, emoticons and plugins for you to enjoy.

Very user friendly set up Yvette.
I'm a fan of car sites. :) Very neat set up. It almost has as many features as some mysql systems.

Strange no mention of ikonboard, it was all the rage here a while ago and i use it on my site and find it very good
Itembazaar,
I would recommend YaBB SE. It's free and was easy for me to install. You can find it at YaBB SE (http://www.yabbse.org).
Just in case you are curious to see what one looks like installed, you can visit my forum although it's not "live" yet. It's located here (http://www.skyviewtechnologies.com/forum/index.php)
BTW, YaBB SE is a MySQL and PHP based version of the earlier YaBB that was text based.
