Hey,

Just when I was beginning to sorta like Powweb I get a timeout on a script that connects to a remote file.

4/5 trys results in a ***** timeout (trying 5 different files on 5 different servers).

On my old host I used to be able to fetch info on about 5 files @ a time without it complaining but on powweb if i fetch 1 on a fast server (my ISP web space) it dies. even with set_time_limit to 600 seconds (more than enough for it to do what it has to do).

Is this a common problem?. looking @ other posts I get the feeling this is. I'm really not in the mood for this ****

Powweb uses a script timer to make sure no script hogs more resources than normal by trying to parse some huge database or mailing list or other function. After a certain amount of time it will 'kill' the script. If this were not in place then it could result in lots of abuse and verrrrrrrrrry sloooooowwwwww servers.

yeah well their script timer sucks. my computer doesn't even use 2% of its resources when building a 1MB file and its a bit crapper than powwebs servers so theres no way the script uses more than 10% of the servers resources and it wouldn't be longer than 60 seconds if powwebs connection wasn't so crap.

Hmmm...well, my scripts don't have any problems. And, keep in mind that even though your script may only use 2% there's plenty of other people on the same server using scripts, shopping carts, photo galleries, message boards, etc. etc. Powweb has to think about everyone, not just one individual's specific needs.

being offensive? yeah towards Powweb. Plus powweb states that you may use 10%! of server resources for no longer than 60 seconds...which is what I would like to do, i dont even wanna use 10%.

forget it, I guess greed got the better of me when i signed up to powweb, 5gb transfer a day ain't worth the hassle. I guess in the end you really do get what you pay for.
