Hi Ya'll,

I have an eCard site at http://Sun-E-Cards.com.

Over the past few months I've been getting problem reports that AOL customers were having problems receiving my eCards. I kept trying to figure out the problem to no avail. Then finally one of the users of my site sent me this problem report:

AOL says that 554-(RLY:B2)is transmitting unsolicited e-mail to AOL. they gave this phone number 1-888-212-5537. We love your site, hope there are no serious problems.

Now I have no idea what is causing this or even what this means. This is way beyond my level of techie knowledge.

Today my eMail box was overrun with problem reports from AOL users. Valentine's day is coming and that's one of my busiest holidays.

I'll have to move my site to a new host if I cannot get this resolved right away. My site gets about 3,200 visitors a week, 11,000, page views per week. So this is a very serious problem.

I cannot remember how to issue a problem report (that's how long it's been since I had a problem here). I've not had one single problem in the one year I've been with POWWEB and so this is quite a surprise.

Thanks again for any help,
SunE1

From speaking to a friend who runs a server company.
AOL has a "report spam" button right next to the delete button.

So many users use the report spam button in place of the delete button.

Its really stupid -- I have a site that has a double opt in and confirm newsletter and some AOL users still click the button and AOL sends me a spam letter.

Call the phone number and see what they say.
If your not sending spam AOL might listen and stop bothering you.

I sent a link in a personal email to all my friends last week, a few of the were AOL'ers and it was bounced back from them..

It was bounced from their server saying that a few of their customers has reported a link like that as spam.. not that my friend had, but others had..

real spam is a very real problem.. but I'm just the parinoid type.. I mean, if AOL is scanning all my emails looking for "these links", then blocking my mail going to my friends, then whats stopping them from scanning the text..

basicly I dont email my friends that have AOL accounts anymore..

a smidge off topic, but it still relates :)

Here's an update to the issue of my IP being blocked by AOL.

I called AOL and was told that if POWWEB sets up a reverse IP addresss for the servers where my IP# resides, the problem will be resolved. Until then I remain blocked.

So the problem is at the POWWEB servers, not at my site.

Here's what POWWEB says:

"AOL has run some tests and for some reason detected our mail servers for open relay resulting in some of our mail server ip's to be blocked. We're currently working on this issue and will keep you posted."

Ive sent POWWEB the info from my call to AOL, but I didn't get a reply. I eMailed them again today.

But until it's resolved by POWWEB .....

If anyone has the ability to code a CGI SCRIPT for a work-around until I can get a true fix from POWWEB, I would be so grateful. I know enough to be able to modify the free CGI script I use for my eCard site, but not enough to create one from scratch.

I was thinking there could be a "pick-up code" listed in the eMail my site sends out. But ---- would AOL users be able to receive my eMail notifications? Some users report their problems saying they get a eMail notice but there is no link to the eCard. But other users problem reports say that their friends just "didn't get the eCard". I'll need to have them clarify for me.

I am willing to pay a small fee. If you're interested, email me at: thesune1@yahoo.com. There's some design stuff you'll need to know prior to estimating what your fee and the timeframe to create it would be.

I could advertise your site from mine. Or do both a combo of fee and Ad. I have quite a bit of traffic. I average 640 visitors a day and about 1,100 page views. On holidays like Valentine's Day, the number of visitors is just about doubled

I hate the thought of having to move!! It's such a large site and takes so long to move to a new web host.

Anyway -- thanks for reading this, I'd appreciate hearing back from folks, even just to get encouragement that POWWEB will eventually fix this. But especially to hear that someone can help with a CGI script!!!

Best Regards,
