I just added a user... it shows up without the nnnnn.username... ok, i can live with that... but when I send a test message it goes to my catchall account.... I can't live with that.

Is/will OPS help it make it easy to set up a POP account?

I'm tired of the recent "he said/she said" diatirbes about the system. I just want to know how to I set up a POP account so that when I apply the rules from my email program the email goes to the proper folder?

Up until the OPS switch, it all worked... now it doesn't. Don't care why, don't even care how come, don't care why it should, don't care if it's a virtural domain, don't care if it's flesh and blood... just care about the fact that it worked.

The reason a lot of us folks use hosting companies that cost $7.77 (or, whatever) is because we might just not know what the heck we're doing and would rather blow off $96 rather than a bizillion bucks.

WRT this email thing, so far I've only seen recusitory accusations and vieled threats. How about we all chill out and let the techs work out the buggies and then quickly get some good instructions (desktop procedures) worked out so that the stupid of us (me at the top of the list) can have a simple POP account work.

WRT in-house testing, let's remember to look at the trees as well as the forest.

Thanks for your time and efforts in getting this all staightened out.

Since you re-posted this message, I assume you're still having the problem. I was having the same, but thanks to some help from users on the forums and a bit of twiddling, figured out that it's a two-step process:

1. Create a new user with POP3 account (this you've done). This username must be unique system-wide. This isn't as limiting as it sounds because at this point, you've only created an account that can be used to poll mail via POP3, but it's not really doing anything. The name used for this account will only be seen by your e-mail client programs.

2. To link the new POP3 account to the outside world, create an alias in the SMTP page that associates a name (user@yourdomain) with that POP3 account. THIS ALIAS CAN BE THE SAME NAME CHOSEN IN STEP 1. Note though that this name DOES NOT need to be unique system-wide. THIS is what the outside world will see. If you don't do this, mail goes into the wildcard inbox.

Starr has indicated that step 2 is now done automatically when new POP3 user accounts are created. You may have an account that was created BEFORE this took effect, thus requiring you to either delete and recreate the account, or perform step 2.

Hope this helps! I'm sure "official" explanations will be better, but this worked for me.

I was wondering how to do that too. Thanks for posting that information.

Glad it helped. Actually, credit where due goes to Tom (fcsnc) for helping confirm my suspicions that those steps would work, and Starr for providing more specifics (see my POP3 to wildcard thread).

I think the documentation is still catching up to the OPS interface approach.
