what? no redundant power supplies?
not on powweb's original servers. that's one of many reasons we haven't put any more like them in production in 2 years. also the reason the number of those 'black boxes' continues to decrease. every new account created in the last 2 years has been created on a Dell 1750 which has not only redundant power, but they also have redundant memory, and raid1 OS drives. which is plenty of redundancy for a server that doesn't even have any customer data on them.
Since PW already replaced Callisto's PSU last night, I wonder if it's a more serious problem. That's a lot of downtime in a single day.
PW: Are there any plans to move accounts off Callisto to a more robust server?
I doubt it's anything more serious. Nothing points in that direction. Servers are machines; parts fail.
Absolutely. And coincidences happen. Since the PSU was replaced last night, it's possible that the new PSU is bad. It's also possible that it's a completely different part that failed this morning, and if it's taking this long to fix, it's probably not just a memory module. ;)
ETA: Callisto's back up.
