Why won't my status bar stay showing? Nothing gets on my nerves more than trying to look at where a link is going to take me and I have to go up and re-enable the status bar. grrrrr!

Use Mozilla, Netscape, Opera ... anything but Internet Exploder "the security hole waiting for an exploit". :D

I'd straight up use Linux and bypass all macrohard crap if I could... but, there's so many programs that I use that don't come in linux format :(

List them. I might be able to help you find equivalents although not exact equivalents. FYI, my SOHO biz is run entirely on Linux and Unix. Not a M$ box in the place. :)

When you select Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and make sure that the status bar is enabled, do you click Apply, then click OK? If you just click OK, it will forget your setting after you reboot. It may forget anyway. It is not reliable, it is Microsoft! :D

I've never seen it in tools... only View | Status Bar - IE 6.0.2800.1106. Microbrains alright... can't remember a simple checkmark.

Weird. It's never been a problem for me - View->Status Bar. Most likely you have some malware or another messing with your IE settings. It's not uncommon.

spybot, spyhunter, and adaware come back clean oh well, microsloth slowly gettin' no my nerves... nothin' big nor new. One of these days I'll just find myself getting a new patent for the "electronic frisbee" oh wait... hmmm most people know them as laptops.

I never had my status bar disappear and it is the default to be enabled, so this is odd. I would suspect something overriding your settings as well.

Proof of MicroBrains again:
from the forum linked above
Hmm. When querying Microsoft's Knowledge Base, it appears there is no immediate solution to this, although MS acknowledges the problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;330216
but further down:
> 1) With (only one) IE open, click View, select: Status Bar
> 2) Right-click on IE's Toolbar and select: "Lock the Toolbar"
> 3) Hold down the Ctrl key and click the close button (upper right)
> 4) Open Windows Explorer, click View, select: Status Bar
> 5) Right-click on Explorer's Toolbar and select: "Lock the Toolbar"
> 6) Click Tools | Folder Options | View tab
> 7) Click the "Apply to all folders" button.
> 8) Hold down the Ctrl key and click the close button (upper right)
> 9) Open IE to any page, right-click on a link and select: "Open in New Window"
> 10)Verify that these Registry entries exist:
>
> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
> "Show_StatusBar"="yes"
> "Show_URLinStatusBar"="yes"

So, did this info help or did I spend one minute on Google for nothing? :D

hmmm, if I keep up at this rate, I'll owe you for all of YOUR domains. You sure I shouldn't send money for you to run my site? lol
Here's a thread on the subject that gives a number of approaches. I did not try any of these, but some sound plausible. Annoyances.org discussion thread on the subject (http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1010765962)
This was one hit resulted from googling "IE status bar doesn't show".
Hope this helps.
