I'm getting the following messages - can someone walk me through fixing them? (I did read the other posts, btw, but I couldn't figure out which ones applied to my problem...)
Warning: Installation directory exists at: /www/u/username/htdocs/catalog/install. Please remove this directory for security reasons.
[I understand how to delete the folder, but it's telling me that I need to delete everything within the folder - is that right?]
Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /www/u/username/htdocs/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.
[I know that I need to do a password protection on this. I finally figured out how to do password protections for a folder I have for the members of my organization - how do I protect two areas at once?]

Read the sticky note at the top of this forum called osCommerce Information. It will give you good instructions on setting up osCommerce and more. (it will fix your problems in question too)

Ok, I have NO idea what the protect.php file is supposed to do, but I no longer have that alert on the top. :D
You folks are awesome! I'm going to apologize in advance, but I'll probably be swamping this site with questions...
Thanks again,
Karen
Please read through the sticky topics first, and do a search if you don't find what you're looking for. Also check out http://forums.oscommerce.com/

Thanks, Stevel -
I will definitely look through the other posts first, but since I have barely a clue on what I'm doing, I don't always get that other people have asked the same question...
I've decided not to flood the site with posts - I'll just use this one. :)
Question: is it possible to give certain people a discount (using a code of some kind?) We generally give members a 10% discount on our products.
There are many "contributions" for discount programs. Start looking through http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions
Before installing a contribution, check out the contribution support forum to see if others are using it and having any problems. Many contributions are fine, some are incomplete or flaky, and some don't work with the current version of osC.

Question 1: Is it possible to give certain people a discount (using a code of some kind?) We generally give members a 10% discount on our products.
Question 2: We currently charge 1.50 per item for S&H, with a $5.00 minimum. How do I configure that in OSCommerce?
I have not explored all the shipping solutions. If the "table rate" doesn't work for you, then search for a contribution or write your own.
Please take the time NOW to browse the contributions. It will give you an idea of what is possible. I'm not an oracle on the subject - I know enough to do what my store needs.
