Hi!
It could have been a good joke. But I am thinking in the other way. So far as I Know, u r to purchase XP pro. Is it upgradable without to pay? May be you know some other way, do u?
Anyway, thax 4 the reply.
OK, I read your other post and this makes more sense. If I understand correctly, you want to upgrade from xp home to xp pro.
I don't know the answer, but it belongs in a different forum. I am moving it there now.
choudhury,
If you would post what it is you really want to accomplish, maybe someone here would be willing to offer an answer or two. ;)
What "server" functions are you looking for?

I think this was meant to be moved to this http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36595 thread.

Yap! IanS is right.
So, here goes the old question again ...
XP home and Server. Any help?
Hi Friends!
I wanted to learn PHP, but china-wall even before to start!!! I am having windows XP home edition, which server can I use with that? Kevin Yank was suggesting Apache 1.3 - I followed and installed and found at last that it is not meant for XP home; some other guys was speaking that IIS also does not support XP home!!! How can I learn PHP then? Any suggestion? How you guys are doing who are using XP home!!!
Thanks friends anyway...
Have a nice time.
You might want to check out Abyss Web Server (http://www.aprelium.com/abyssws/).
It is small and works with Win95 thru Win2003 and you can add PHP, Perl and Asp if you want.
On the plus side, it's also free ;)

Thanx Jack!
I try this one. By the way, your Socrates's theory is quite interesting.
Have a nice time ...

My model for learning PHP has been to host it at PowWeb here. To the best of my knowledge, Windows XP Home has the legendary restrictions that have been on non-server NT Operating Systems since 3.1, the limitations on incoming connections. In NT4, Pro could only take 10 incoming connections while Server had no limit. I think XP Home may be more creative, but if you're already hosting with PowWeb, just make a development directory and write PHP there to your heart's content.

Wow! Thanks so much for this link! This sounds like a --perfect-- solution to our server needs in our classroom. My wife is a 2nd grade teacher in a private Christian school, and naturally we've next to no budget for much of anything like server software. I teach a tech class there as a volunteer and have been looking for a while for a good server that would run on our mostly old equipment. Thanks for the tip.
