I was just curious... I had heard that with a G network, if a single B comes onboard, everybody will drop to B standards. When I asked for further information, they were unsure.

If it is true that a G network will drop to B standards, what exactly drops? I assume the speed; but, does the distance as well? I personally have a G, I'm trying to convince the person who owns the network I'm on to convert to G; but, if he gets a G router, will he have to convert all of his computers over to G as well?

Of course, the flip side... or is this all just a hoax?

My guess would be that it's a hoax... However, I am unsure.

I do know that 802.11G doesn't have a longer distance than 802.11B....

I've verified otherwise on an all G network - we just didn't have a B to infest it. G's do go further; but, at the same time, a B or a G can be set to go long distance as well... the longest I've read about is 37 miles.
