Hey everyone!

Looking through the forums a bit, I absolutely HATE to be one to ask a question that seems to have been asked over and over and over yet again... BUT, I signed up for my domain and the hosting yesterday. I've already uploaded my index page, yet all that is working is the temporary site. I am new to the whole, "this domain is actually mine" theory. I have had plenty of experience with WS FTP and using free hosting sites.


My site should be www.clanblud.com (http://www.clanblud.com/) . The temporary site is clanbludcom.powweb.com (http://clanbludcom.powweb.com/) . Am I just worried about nothing?? Should this process take a few days?

DNS propogation..... www.yousite.com..... takes approx 72 hours... but it may work for you sooner..... it may also work for a little while... and then not work.... but after 72 hours.... it should all work out....

I also might mention.... if you're on cable.... it may take longer... if you're ISP.... uses URL caching.... it could take up to a week.... but in most cases .... 72 hours works

First off, the only bad question, is a question never asked.

You said you uploaded your index page,

Is it named index.htm or index.html?

Did you upload it into your "htdocs" directory (folder)?

Everything that you upload, that you want to be seen as part of your web site, has to be put within the "htdocs" directory. You can create other directories (folders) within the htdocs directory but the main "index" has to be in the root of htdocs.


Now, is that as clear as mud to you? ;)

The temporary URL shows me your index.htm page, not the default one from Powweb, so, it looks like things are going in the right direction so far.

Yeah, the temp page is showing properly, so I figured that I uploaded everything properly (to the correct folder(s)). I was just concerned that I was not doing something correctly because the domain is still showing "page cannot be displayed". I thought that I may have been waaaayy over my head when I decided to do this. I was reading some of the other posts talking about changing the DNS and all that, that's why I was nervous.

Again, I appreciate all of the help.... I expect more in the future :P j/k.
