server error

i cant reach my admin folder at all now in osCommerce i replaced and or removed all the password stuff .htaccess and .htpasswd files with the orginal and still i cant get into admin with browser any ideas?

What's the error message? There is no "original .htpasswd" file for osCommerce.

i ment if i didnt say the orginal htaccess file in osCommerce/catalog/admin
but i replace the entire admin folder with a back up copy i keep and i can log into admin now from browser. still wish i knew how to password protect it i tried following all the trheds on it i read in powwebs tuturals and still i dont seem to be able to get it . thanks for your help

You password protect the admin the same way you do any directory, with .htaccess and .htpasswd. You just have to make sure you do it right. See http://resources.powweb.com/support/tutorials/index.php?category=htaccess&topic_id=29

i had been doing it right server says its a new server and the problem is withthem ,i dunno
