View Full Version : How to block inline-images?
Some of my graphics seem attractive enough for some people to embed them into their own pages. How can I prevent that?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I tried to find some answer in the FAQ but had no luck. TIA for any help you can give me. :)
By "inline", I take you mean they are linking to your images, not downloading them?
If so, it's called leaching and you need to look for the anti-leaching threads.
There is a tutorial on this HERE (http://help.powweb.com/tutorials/htaccess/antileech.php) plus there is a recent thread about it HERE (http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?t=36897)
Just be warned, that this can also block others from seeing your images when they visit your site.
I mean they are using <img scrn="http://www.MYdomain/images/image.gif"> tag right on their pages.
Is that what's called "leeching"?
In two cases it has been a stupid chatting list that has nothing to do with my web site contents, and it's effing up my webstats and using my bandwidth unnecessarily. The hosts aren't listening to me, they want to allow their users to do that. If you ask me, that sucks.

Yes, that is what is called leeching and those links I gave you are for blocking such things.
Yes, it "sucks" as you say, but it's a fact of life on the internet and you'll find that it's a constant battle to limit such activities.
Good Luck
Thank you very much! I'll try to fix it via the pages you referred to. :)
