View Full Version : LCD display too bright

I have just switched from my Belinea 17" CRT to a brand new Philips TFT 17" 170S4. They all were attached on a nVIDIA Riva TNT2 Model 64 graphic card. The screen on my first monitor was fine, but when I set the new one (TFT) it is too bright. I even set the brightness and contrast on the monitor controls to a minimum, but the screen is still very bright: I can barely see the scroll bar on the right.

Any suggestions how to fix this issue?

Start | Control Panel | Display | Settings | Advanced

There should be something in there for you. In my case:
Intel Extreme Graphics | Graphics Properties | Color

Hope this leads you in the right direction.

Did you install drivers for the new LCD monitor? In your display properties you would need to make sure that the LCD monitor is the one selected. A CRT monitor requires more drive and would overdrive an LCD.

I tried every possible tab and button in the Display/Settings/Advance but still no good. Seems like that my graphic card does not support such options as yours.

I also double checked that the right monitor is selected and I deleted the old drivers.

Still very bright...

Just to let everyone know that I resolved this issue.

I figured that when I was first installing Windows XP (2 years ago), I had let windows automatically detect my video card and install a driver for it. I deleted that driver and installed a new one from the installation disks.
After I did that, in the Advanced tab on my display settings, 3 more tabs appeared, one of which is named "colour corrections". I fixed the brightness there and now everything is fine.

Thanks to all who tried to help.
