View Full Version : Art/Illustration Site
Please crtique the following website
http://www.n8w.com/newweb/index.php
My main objectives are:
1. create a site that showcases my work for art directors, editors and designers
2. facilitate word of mouth (via postcards, etc)
3. get illustration work of course
4. understanding various marketing ROI by analyzing the statistics
I am not looking so much for feedback on the illustrations specifically, because you either like them or you dont .. but more of a web site critique.
for example:
--Is it easy to navigate?
--Easy to view work?
--Is there any info you would like to see, but dont?
--What suggestions do you have? Offer downloads, such as screensavers, wallpaper, etc
--Are the images too big, to small, etc
--If I sign up for the mailing list is my email addressed shared? etc
--any other things/technologies you think would be useful?
--any ideas of how I can promote my site?
Thanks a ton for your time!

I spent much time on your site (very easy to do). As I mentioned in chat when you popped in - though your art style is not my 'type', I LOVE the energy of the site, and have come to appreciate your artistry as well. I find the site exciting without being 'over the top' and very well suited styling for content.
As to your objectives:
1) I think you've met it. The site is filled with your work, and you've suceeded in a very unique look & feel that shows your style well.
2) I think this will come, but believe an addition of a privacy policy explaining what you log/keep email addy-wise and it's use, etc may increase traffic. I didn't see that information for postcards or subscribing.
3) even I'm thnking about how to hire you! <G>
4) not a clue..
-Is it easy to navigate?
Yes, but a slight change to each graphic link would make it even better
-Easy to view work?
Very
-Is there any info you would like to see, but dont?
A Privacy Policy and statement of personal information use.
An updated copyright (it's 2004 now :))
-What suggestions do you have? Offer downloads, such as screensavers, wallpaper, etc
I think downloads of screensaves & wallpaper would get you placement in other search engine areas, as well as increase word of mouth. Maybe even a whole theme (with icon's & all). I have made some wallpapers of DH's CD covers on our site.. and we get downloads every month (and our wallpaper is nothing special).
-Are the images too big, to small, etc
I found the file sizes to be good. . but am on broadband. I did notice however that unless my browser is fullsize that I have left-right scrolling. It may be that your target audience will be surfing with large amounts of screenspace? Those comeing to do postcards may be annoyed though.
-If I sign up for the mailing list is my email addressed shared? etc
Goes to my saying a privacy policy, etc would be good :)
-any other things/technologies you think would be useful?
Animated post cards with your art. Swish (http://www.swishzone.com/) could probably do all you'd need to. Add a bit of music & hey there ya go. (I know quite a few online musicians that may be willing to work w/you if you wanted original music).
all in all, I think it's a REALLY well done site with only minor issue's.

Just one point to make:
You should take a look at your site using Netscape or Mozilla! The menu list looks like you used the <blink> tag, the text "Send an Electronic Postcard" "Tokion Magazine" "SUPERNADIE"....etc are all blinking when viewed with Mozilla FireFox or Netscape 7.01
yikes .. thanks for letting me know
gives me a dns error - cannot get in.
Very interesting  I still cannot get in. I still get the default IE dns error page. Could be a problem with my ISP, but I get in just fine to all other PowWeb hosted sites.
Good job on the Illustrations, I'm interrested in graphic design (Http://www.stevebrunet.com) If you want to take a look !
