here is what i am working with:
mobo: Asus A7N8X, 8x AGP video w/64 onboard memory, 512M Corsair SDRAM, Onlite cd r/rw, Western Digital SATA hard drive. Phoenix BIOS

I'm building this and having a lot of problems getting the sata drive to be recognized. I can't find anything in the bios that enables or disables sata. the jumpers on the mobo are correct, drive is in the primary sata input. I just can't seem to find anything in bios, i run the automatic HD detection and all it finds is my cd rom. After i exit bios i am prompted to set up RAID. Since i have only one drive i can't do anything, but it does list the WD as the primary drive and no secondary.

Any ideas, should i just continue and try to install my os?

I've looked all over the web and only find people dealing with the os install, nothing on bios setup.

thanks in advance
jackson

Your Asus motherboard manual should tell you how to set up to accept your Western Digital SATA primary hard drive in the BIOS. If automatic detection fails, this may be because the hard disk drive is too old or too new. If the hard disk was already formatted on an older system, Setup may detect incorrect parameters. In these cases, select [User Type HDD] to manually enter the IDE hard disk drive parameters.

Be sure you have the correct information from the drive manufacturer which should be available on Western Digital's website if you do not have a manual. Incorrect settings may cause the system to fail to recognize the installed hard disk.

I have got an Asus motherboard and two hardisks, one of which is a SATA.

The motherboard does not find it automatically so I have to go into the BIOS and change the boot hardisk (not boot sequence)
