Ok, between all of us who share this computer (individual logins) we have a LOT of stuff installed. (what's the smilie symbol for "undertstatment of the year?) The XP program menu that comes up on mine (This is XP Home) sorts everything alphabetically into three columns.

Problem: That gets us to about the "T's" in the list of stuff. U-Z is gone.

How can I get this silly OS to draw 4-5 columns across? I don't want to have to resort to the "Classic View" just to see all the stuff and end up scrolling endlessly up and down.

Something tells me this has GOT to be simple, but I can't find it...

Well, I'm no XP "xpert", but for all other Windows versions I've always made folders within the start menu to sort and organize the menu. I hate it when I work on someones computer and their start menu covers the entire screen.

Since I don't run XP, I'm not sure this will work for you.. but you could try right clicking on your "Start" button and selecting "Explore". If that works then it should take you to where the start menu is stored and allow you to create folders to move items into. Maybe sort things by user names??

Of course you can also use logon and set each user up with their own layout and menu options too.

We have multiple users set up and all that, but the stuff causing the issue is the shared programs between users, of which there are a lot -- as this computer is used for a wide variety of purposes

Tried that idea, thought I could create folders on the start menu as we used to do in the Olden Days and just group things that way, but can't seem to get it.

Got that, its the shared programs causing the issue. Thanks for the attempt.

welp, any shared apps will probably reside in the 'allusers' user. That's located here by default:

c:\documents and settings\All Users\start menu

If you can arrange just this user into subfolders that should probably help. Or make a single folder called 'shared' and drop everything into it.

btw, I'm with J, I hate the infinitely scrolling windows. I arrange everything on my start menu into no more than about 10-15 folders.
