View Full Version : Notepad problems: "A device not attached to the system is not running"
I cant right click?view source anymore. I dont think I messed with anything..When I right click>view source. I get this message Notepad: "A device not attached to the system is not running"
Whats going on and how can I fix this..Lord knows I need my view source...
sounds like the Temporary internet files folder is corrupt. delete all that is in it and then try it.
At the risk of posting an unhelpful reply, if the device is (by its own report) not attached to the system, then how does it know it's not running??!?
Talk about a useless error message!

As sahajin pointed out, empty your browser cache and Windows temp folder. It is either corrupted or simply too full to allow view source.
When my temp files where so full, the notepad would just not load and I never got erros!

I've done a google search on how to empty browser cache tools>internet options>delete files>ok... I even deleted offline content...
I'm still having that same problem... Cant open notepad
Whats wrong?
Did you empty your windows temp folder? I run a script at boot time that does that so I know it is a least drained on each reboot. But even then that will miss hidden files. So I still do it manually every now and then.
Check your system environment variables for the location of each user's temp folders. Should be 2 specified per user. May or may not be pointing to the same place.
You gotta love that error message. I bet Bill was up all night thinking up that one.

Will it open without going through IE? Perhaps its a connection between IE and Notepad.
If you've done like me and trashed the link (because I prefer runline commands for some reason), [start] [run] notepad [ok]
can you open notepad normally? if so then try updating or reinstalling IE.
Try and re-install IE or start using Mozilla
