Need more info - computer specs, mobo type, onboard or pci sound card? Are the sound drivers installed?

Right click on My Computer and chose Properties, select the Hardware tab and click on Device Manager button. Scroll down to Sound, Audio and Game Controllers. Any Icons indicating exclaimation or Question marks? List them here.

Hi,

If the speaker icon disappears in Windows it is often because your soundcard isn't being detected properly due to a driver or hardware conflict issue. :D

Im assuming that you are using a SoundBlaster soundcard. Try reinstalling the software/drivers that came with it and try again. As a side note, check to see if the speaker wire wiggled its way out of the sound card. Dont laugh, it happens quite often. :D
