View Full Version : Back up data
As a Powweb's client, I wonder if Powweb would back up their clients' website data in case a site hosted on Powweb server gets hacked that Powweb can restore all data for the client.
Is this service already included in the package ?

From PowWeb's Policy (http://www.powweb.com/policy.htm):Back-Up Files: PowWeb will make every reasonable effort to protect and backup data for Client on a regular basis, however PowWeb does not guarantee the existence, accuracy, or regularity of its backup services and, therefore, client is solely responsible for independent backup of data stored on Providers server and network.. There is a one time fee of $100 for our Administrator to retreive client's individual back-up files.
The prudent course of action is that you should have a copy of all your site files on your local system - this makes maintenance much easier as well. If you use a MySQL database, there are daily backups done - you can restore from a week's worth through Member Operations, but doing your own backups is also a good idea.
Thanks for your advice :) I know nothing about how to use mysql so far. It can be used to store all the site's content ? Can you recommend a good tutorial where I can learn it up.
The Mysql I picked up so far from various tutorial sites make me more confused about what it is.

No. Backup your sites content using FTP.
If you do use MySQL for your site, also take daily backups of your database. You will find a script that does daily rotating backups (a month's worth) on my Tips & Scripts page (link in my sig). It dates the backups and puts them oin your package space. Then you take a copy of those backups from your site when you do the noraml ftp backups.
