I get the feeling this is when you perform some maintenance on your servers, but at 9.00am GMT for a number of days now I've noticed my site, running off www03.powweb.com and connects to mysql02.powweb.com is unavailable.

I don't mind if its a backup of the database, etc as these have to be performed at some point, but just to make you aware that this is having knock on effects on the other side of the Atlantic ... !

Cheers,

Kev

There is no rason your servers should be out at 9am gmt or any other time. And it is very strange that both your http and mysql servers would be down at the same time. And even more strange that this would happen multiple days at the same time.

So that is not an answer, I know. Just confirmation that it is not a scheduled outage. DB backups (when ever they do them) should not bring down the systems.

Still down for me... it's been down all weekend. There's no new announcements in the downtime forum. How about an update guys? This downtime is certainly disturbing. I'd be very upset if I was running any sort of a business on my webspace...

Your domain expired
It is amazing how much this happens. PowWeb really should allow auto-renew.

You would think the person would get an email from the register.
I get bothered by my domain register company if it even gets close to expiring.

Everyone is notified 4 times!!! 90,60,30, and 10 days before it expires... we don't currently allow auto renew because we constantly have people who get upset that their package is automatically renewed... at least then we can cancel it with a refund and little money is lost... for domain registrations and renewals... we can't do that... we loose the money... we can't get a refund from OpenSRS.

Its okay... you might want to make sure that the email address on file for your domain registration is up to date... check the one you have in OPS under the personal tab too (they are not the same!)

The web server wasn't down. The webserver told me the database was unavailable.

Can someone from Powweb clarify what happens to the servers/network around 9am GMT.

I work for a web hosting company for the automotive trade here in the UK and we have a similar issue when we back up one of our smaller sites runniny MySQL and mysqlhotcopy - just want clarification that something like this is happening.

Cheers.
