Does anyone here use this product on Win98? This is the anti-virus plus the firewall.

I've been trying to get it to work on my pc, but no luck. Specifically, it won't bring up the configuration screen when you click on the desktop icon or at the end of the installation process. I've uninstalled it and installed several times, still no luck.

Symantec had me do a number of different things to no avail.

Any comments from existing users?

Make sure your system meets the requirments to run the program:

http://www.symantec.com/sabu/nis/nis_pe/sys_req.html

Was the product packaged with your computer? I'm guessing it wasnt, as far as I know just Norton AntiVirus is with certain makers, not Internet Security.

Had you rebooted after uninstalling then reinstalling the software? Perhaps, try a different directory rather than the default (if that option is given).

Worst comes to worst, a format of the hard drive - it might be needed anyway. Try installing the software first to narrow down whats causing the problem....then, if all is well, I would go ahead and add other applications into the mix.

Is the product a legal copy? I might not trust a warez or illegal copy of the product. I sure know if I was out to do harm via P2P, someone searching for an AntiVirus, or any protection program, is looking as they lack one.

Well, if you still can't get it working, maybe you can get a refund? I actually just 'converted' to McAfee. Norton Internet Security, for me atleast, was taking up way too much memory, and slowing down the system as a whole.

Try a trial of McAfee (http://download.mcafee.com/us/eval/evaluate2.asp?cid=9445) or keep looking until you find one that works I guess.

There are many options that are as good as or better than Norton or McAfee, many of which have free versions that let you have plenty of time to see if it does what it should.

For anti-virus, you can try Grisoft's AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/) free version.

Grisoft now offers a bundled package of their commercial AVG program along with Kerio firewall.

For a software firewall, there are free versions of OutPost (http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpost/) and SyGate (http://smb.sygate.com/download_buy.htm).

Personally, I gave up on Peter Nortons and McAfee products when they became over bloated resource hogs and their support went out the window.

No more Norton here. Dealing with them makes one appreciate Microsoft. I think I'll try the Zone Alarm firewall and antivirus instead.
